Sea-Tac Airport's Noise Abatement programs were developed through airport and community planning efforts. These programs were created to reduce the noise produced by aircraft while on the ground, during takeoffs and landings, and during flights over populated areas. Information from these programs often leads to new noise reduction measures.
Noise Abatement programs restrict aircraft engine maintenance run-ups, maintain an information and complaint line, monitor noise levels and monitor aircraft compliance with noise abatement procedures.View this video clip to learn more about the Noise Abatement programs.

The 2007 Fly Quiet award for passenger airlines were presented to SkyWest Airlines at a Port Commission meeting. Pictured from left to right are Bill Bryant, Port commissioner; David Aquino, SkyWest chief pilot; John Creighton, Port commissioner; Patricia Davis, Port commissioner; and Lloyd Hara, Port commissioner. Cargolux received top honors for cargo airlines and Horizon Air was recognized as honorable mention.
The Port created a Fly Quiet Committee in early 2003. Membership included city staff members from local communities and representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Puget Sound Regional Council, pilots and mechanics. The goal of the Committee was to find innovative ways to further reduce the impacts from aircraft noise. While significant progress had already been made through insulation, acquisition and noise abatement programs, there is always room for improvement.
Fly Quiet is a family of programs encouraging airlines and pilots to operate aircraft as quietly as possible. Using noise abatement technology, Fly Quiet monitors the accuracy with which airlines and pilots adhere to all noise abatement programs at Sea-Tac Airport.
